Ute Slides: A Practical Guide to Sliding Trays

A slide-out tray can make it easier to reach equipment stored toward the front of a ute tub. However, designs, dimensions, mounting requirements and capacities differ. Choose a tray using the specifications of the actual product and vehicle rather than a general claim about what all ute slides can carry.

Where a sliding tray can help

Sliding trays can be useful when loading and unloading tools or camping equipment that would otherwise be difficult to reach. How much of the tub remains usable depends on the tray's size, extension, mounting height and surrounding accessories.

Check the manufacturer's load rating

There is no single load capacity applicable to every ute slide. Check the limit stated on the product listing or in its instructions, including any conditions for load distribution and extended positions. Do not assume a common rating such as 300 kg applies to the entire category. Secure loads according to the vehicle and accessory instructions.

Vehicle fitment matters

AlfaLab lists sliding trays for particular vehicles, including selected Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton and other models. Browse the current sliding trays collection, then check the individual listing for your model, year and tub configuration. A vehicle name in a general guide does not establish fitment.

Measure the available space

  • Confirm the internal tub length and width and the intended mounting locations.
  • Check clearance for tailgate operation, handles, drawers and tie-down points.
  • Consider whether an existing tub liner, canopy, roller shutter or tonneau cover changes the usable space.
  • Review how far the product extends and any space needed behind the vehicle to use it.

Installation and care

Follow the instructions supplied for the actual tray. Confirm whether the vehicle requires particular mounting hardware or modifications; do not assume every installation is bolt-on or drill-free. Inspect fasteners and sliding components as recommended by the manufacturer.

What about alternative tub organisers?

If your goal is to keep smaller items from moving around rather than carry a larger load on a slide, AlfaLab also lists a ute tub organiser hammock. It is a different type of storage product, and its own measurements and installation requirements must be checked separately.

Before buying

Compare your measured tub space, the manufacturer's stated load limit, extension, mounting method and current product availability. A sliding tray should be chosen for the vehicle and load you actually have—not on generic durability, waterproofing or warranty promises.
